Who is this course suitable for?

The courses are designed for people with little or no previous experience in wall and floor tiling and are attended by people of all ages, both male and female. They are suitable for; people who wish to learn the skills to complete tiling work on their own properties, wish to supplement their income or take the first step towards changing their career. If you are unsure if the course is suitable please visit the our centre when a tiling course is running to speak with both staff and students.
Course Objectives and Certification.

Our tiling training courses are aimed at not just giving you the knowledge and skills in tiling but the confidence to use them. The courses are intensive but taught in a relaxed, friendly and professional manner by experienced tradesmen who are approved by City & Guilds. Our tiling courses can be attended midweek or over consecutive Saturdays. Full support is provided after course completion.

You will work in a purpose built bay with ceilings at 2.4m height and we will supply all tools and materials. Upon completion you will receive a certificate of competence.  Upon successful completion you will also receive a certificate issued by the National Open College Network.

You will cover the following units:

    *Understand how to and practice setting out floors and walls – very important to know the correct method.  You will complete this in your own training bay and we will also cover setting out in our other training bays – bathrooms, kitchens, etc.

      · Understand how to and practice fixing tiles to walls – around windows, sockets, switches, basins, internal and external angles.

      · Understand how to and practice fixing tiles to floors – around obstacles such as pillars, boxing in, pedestals, etc.
      · Practice grouting using floor grout, wall grout and epoxy grout.

      · Practice tile cutting using a large selection of different hand nippers, dry cutters and wet cutters.

      · Understand different tiles available and their suitability for different applications.

      · Identify background surfaces and understand any preparation that they may require.

      · Identify and use tools, equipment and materials used in floor and wall tiling.

      · Understand how to correctly plan and prepare tiling projects – tools and materials needed, time frames and how to cost jobs.

      · Tanking systems, ideal for wet rooms and shower enclosures – very popular aspect.

      · Understanding the different methods used to price jobs, dealing with customers and overcoming problems that may arise. You will also be provided with support after completing your course and you are able to contact your tutor, email or call into the training centre to discuss your queries.
      · Supporting information on business start-up.

      · Telephone, email and drop in support relating to course contents and business start-up, quoting, etc.

      ·  Fully answer all your questions related to the trade, you are taught by experienced tradesmen with a passion for the trade, ask as many questions as you wish during the course.
