Specialist tiling is increasingly popular, both modern and more traditional tiling are equally desired and all tillers will benefit from being able to offer all services across the board. We can offer you the opportunity at Able Skills to learn tiling to a professional standard and to be able to provide to the requirements of every customer.

Able Skills has developed additional tiling and plastering related courses to help existing tradesmen, especially Tilers, increase their potential. With these additional skills, you will be able to complete all aspects of any job that you take on, offering a wider range of skills

We have devised a 5 day course which will cover floor screeding and tanking. This will enable you to cover other necessary aspects before tiling the allocated area.

We have specific designated areas in order to complete these training courses; these are located within Able Skills dedicated Tiling Training Centre.

These combined courses are available Monday – Friday or split over 2 weekends. If you only want to cover one aspect of this course, this is available during the week or for 1 weekend.

Tiling Fast Track to Full Route: QUA 750 NVQ Level 2 – Wall and Floor Tiling -Dartford, Kent, UK.

Able Skills has devised a three week fast track tiling programme designed to help you towards achieving NVQ level 2 in wall and floor tiling.

By 2010, it will be a requirement for anybody who wishes to work on a construction site, to hold a level 2 trade qualification and Experienced Worker CSCS card.

This particular Tiling course has been designed for those of you with little or no experience in wall and floor tiling.

The 3 weeks that you are with us will provide training in various different areas of tiling, guiding you at all times to meet the requirements of a Tiling NVQ assessment.

Our 4 week course is entirely hands on with excellent support and tuition from your Instructor. Along with Tiling training you will be given advice on quoting for jobs, how to measure up the job (floors/walls) and setting out the quote.

At the time of booking your course you will be sent our Instructional DVD free of charge, to enable you to obtain an excellent insight to the training you are going to receive. This DVD will additionally benefit you once you have completed your training as a form of reference and guidance.

The course will cover health and safety, which tools are required, what tool to use for each job, what they cost, how often they need replacing and general maintenance etc.

Able Skills is a City & Guilds and CAA approved training centre and is able to offer the following City & Guilds Unit Accreditation in tiling.

In order to take part in this course, you must have previous tiling experience or have attended Able Skills Intensive or Advanced tiling courses.

During this 5 day course you will be continually assessed and will be building a portfolio of photographic evidence which is yours to keep and present to potential employers or customers. It is advisable that you build on this existing portfolio as you undertake tiling projects.
Practical activities will enable the candidate to:

    * Prepare floor and wall to receive tiles.
    * Fix Straight edge and check for level.
    * Apply adhesives.
    * Fix tiles.
    * Apply Grouting.
    * Clean tools, equipment.

This course is entirely hands on from beginning to end and is ideally for people who have some experience in the tiling industry or for those of you who have completed some tiling training at Able Skills.

Marble

This course will teach you how to tile with 4” x 4” natural tumbled marble. You will learn how to seal natural stone, understand required adhesives and be aware of how to enhance the stones natural features.

Slate

You will be shown how to lay 12” x 12” natural slate tile and be taught how to overcome uneven thickness of the tile when laying it onto a floor.

Able skills 5 day Advanced tiling course is suitable for those of you looking to progress from our 5 day intensive course and build upon the knowledge you have already gained.

All of our tiling instructors have years of onsite experience combined with the required teaching qualifications, and therefore ensure that the quality of training is to a very high standard. Our instructors have been approved by both City & Guilds and CAA.

This tiling course is entirely hands on from start to finish. You will be participating at every stage and we feel that this method of training enhances the learning process. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.

Geometric floor tiles are part of Britains heritage and were originally used to decorate medieval churches and monasteries and the homes of the aristocracy. Today Victorian tiles are extremely fashionable in all types of homes particularly in hallways and conservatories. There is a high demand for specialist Victorian tilers.

Victorian tiles are made up of geometric shapes interlocking together to create fantastic looking floors, this therefore requires special training in order to re-create the stunning effects of the nineteenth century. The skill we teach is the intricate setting out and laying to fit these floors into the space available on average 250 individual pieces are required per square metre.
